Why I think 2014 will be better

In my pre-election Hunter and Central Coast Salary Snapshot, I suggested the exchange rate, the carbon tax and the federal poll itself would have a significant impact on wages over the next 12 months and beyond.

Business decision-making and recruitment was at a standstill awaiting the new government. Nowhere was this more evident than a mining sector in transition from investment phase to production phase.

I also noted another federal election issue impacting on employment was the National Broadband Network. These are still the significant issues, albeit for changing reasons, but I remain optimistic about Australia’s and the Hunter’s prospects for 2014.

My final piece of advice was to “buckle up”.

Workplace bullying can occur wherever people work together and in all types of workplaces. Bullying is a work health and safety issue as it poses risks to the health and safety of workers.

Julia will speak on research commissioned by Safe Work Australia examined psychosocial risk factors in the working Australian population that raised serious concerns regarding levels of bullying and harassment. Safe Work Australia is also working on a number of initiatives arising from the Australian Government's response to the Parliamentary Inquiry report Workplace Bullying: "We just want it to stop".
