Forsythes gains environmental edge

Newcastle business services firm, Forsythes, has today unveiled plans to partner with leading Australian and global carbon management company, Carbon Planet, to deliver world-class Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions assessment and carbon management advice to clients.

Forsythes is the first business in the Hunter Valley region to partner with Carbon Planet, a veteran in the emerging carbon industry. The partnership has emerged in response to the growing demand for carbon management expertise from businesses across Australia.

Carbon Planet has operated in Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada for more than eight years. It was the first carbon management company in Australia to have its operations and services certified Greenhouse Friendly by the Australian Government's Department of Climate Change.

"It was imperative that we find the right partner to advise us and our clients on how to reduce energy emissions while remaining focused on core business competencies," said Forsythes Audit Partner, Martin Matthews. "Carbon Planet met this challenge by providing us with a comprehensive assessment, realistic business strategies and a genuine commitment to a sustainable environment."

"Their scientific credentials allowed us confidence in knowing that the carbon management matters of us and our clients were in the hands of professionals. Further, as the only retailer of certified carbon credits that actually transfers ownership of the carbon credits, they were the most reliable choice for us."

By 2010, the Australian Government will implement a National Emissions Trading Scheme - the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS). The introduction of the CPRS and associated reporting and compliance frameworks will require businesses across Australia to understand and act on carbon management.

Chairman and CEO of Carbon Planet, Jim Johnson, says the partnership with Forsythes represents an exciting opportunity for businesses in the Hunter Valley region.

"The opportunity for the corporate world and the environment is immense. For those who respond early and effectively, carbon management can drive improved business efficiencies and market differentiation, and ultimately financial gains," Mr Johnson said.

Forsythes specialist audit and advisory team will work in conjunction with Carbon Planet - led by qualified scientists – and utilise the most up-to-date science to measure and build knowledge about the overall emissions of an organisation. The team will also identify ways to reduce carbon liability, save money and develop profitable strategies to manage carbon exposure.

"Having already provided carbon management services to the Newcastle Airport and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, we are very excited at the opportunity to work closely with Forsythes and their clients to strengthen Hunter businesses for future legislative compliance and associated challenges," Mr Johnson said.
